Rio Ferdinand Talks about Man Utd will finish top three
Rio Ferdinand, QPR defender has backed former club Manchester United to finish in the Premier League's top three this season after overcoming a "sticky start'' under Louis van Gaal.
Speaking to Sky Sports News about United's season Ferdinand, who had been a part of the Red Devils for more than ten years before finally move to Queens Park Rangers last summer, believes his old team was at least going to win a trophy at the end of the competition. "Six weeks ago I guess you hope they can qualify for the Champions League [next season], "said Ferdinand. "Looking at them now, I think they'll finish in third place, qualifying for the Champions League, maybe then they will get a trophy. "They're in third place for the moment. If they continue their pace, then who knows? They could only finish second or first, but I think [qualifying for] the Champions League is their target this season and I think they will reach it easily, "he added. United will host Newcastle United in the Premier League match day 18th at Old Trafford Friday night.

Van Gaal has started to live up to his star-billing in recent weeks, overseeing a run of six wins from seven matches which has lifted the Red Devils into third place ahead of the Boxing Day visit of Newcastle. And Ferdinand, whose 12-year stint at Old Trafford ended in the summer, is convinced his old side's revival will continue.
"Six weeks ago I think you'd be thinking hopefully they'd get in the Champions League,'' he said on Sky Sports News. "Looking at them now, I think they'll finish definitely in third place, definite Champions League, then maybe they'll get one of the cups.
